The city of Shakhrisabz means “Green City”. It is really drowned in the green of gardens and vineyards. Shakhrisabz, one of the oldest cities in Uzbekistan, charms visitors from afar. Especially, when at night from the mountain pass Takhta-Karacha you can see below the multicolored scattering of its lights, there is an involuntary feeling that you are standing on the threshold of an oriental fairy tale.

Shakhrisabz is the birthplace of Amir Temur.

There are not so many historical monuments in Shakhrisabz itself, but all of them are unique or have colossal historical value. The most famous attraction of Shakhrisabz is the palace of Timur Ak-Saray (White Palace, 1380-1404). No less interesting is the ensemble of the mausoleum Dorus-Siadat (“Place of Power”, XIV c) – the crypt of Jahangir and Omar (Timur’s sons), which is comparable to Ak-Saray in its scale and decoration and the ensemble Dorut-Tilyavat (“blue mosque”, XIV c) – the mausoleum of Timur’s spiritual mentor Shamsiddin Kulol.
