Samarkand is larger than Bukhara, so we can’t explore everything on foot. We do part of the tour on foot and part by car. Samarkand is the city of Amir Timur, his capital, the city that inspired fear and admiration of other conquerors at the same time. In Samarkand all monuments belong to XIV-XVII centuries. Not in vain the city is called majestic, as the minimum height of each building is 20 meters.

We start the excursion from the Gur Emir Mausoleum, where not only Tamerlan himself, but also his closest relatives are buried. Next to the mausoleum is Registan Square, with three madrassahs of XV-XVII centuries looking at each other. Registan Square is not only the most visited place in Uzbekistan, but also a cultural venue for cultural events. And what is worth the evening panorama of the square!

Tashkent Street is the link between the Registan and the Bibi Khanum Mosque of the 15th century, where you can stroll through the souvenir shops. The street will lead us to the Bibi Khanum Mosque, as well as the main Siab Bazaar.

The main market of Samarkand is saturated with the odors of spices, fruits and vegetables, which you can taste while passing through the stalls of traders. The most authentic place of Samarkand! After visiting the bazaar, we walk down the street and before us we see the view of endless hills, which are the cradle of Samarkand’s history. On these hills there is a complex of mausoleums of Shahi Zinda, where the grave of a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad is located, as well as a street of mausoleums of the female line of the Timur dynasty. In addition to monuments of religious importance, in Samarkand we will lastly visit the observatory of Ulugbek, grandson of Amir Timur, with the only surviving instrument for studying the stars.
