Bukhara is the birthplace of seven great Sufis of the Naqshbandi Brotherhood. The great representatives of Sufism lived here, led religious and social life, who contributed to the formation and prosperity of Blessed Bukhara, to the education of spirituality, to the raising of emotional spirit. Pirs – Muslim sanctuaries, burial places of Sufi saints have been preserved here.

Most Bukhara pilgrims begin their journey with a blessed visit to the Mausoleum of Khoja Abdalkhalik al Gijduwani, the spiritual leader who paved the path of Naqshbandi teachings. Abdalkhalik al Gijduvani is the spiritual link of the tenth generation of the Prophet. The iwan of the mausoleum with ten columns and supports is a symbol of the mentioned dynasty.

In the time of Khoja Abdalkhalik al-Gijduwani, the mausoleum was a chillahona where people came to pray during the forty-day heat wave. The holy place for supplication then becomes a cherished place of worship. In the recent past, the shrine has been abandoned. It took several generations for the mausoleum to acquire its present exemplary appearance. Now “Mausoleum of Abdalkhalik al-Gijduwani” as a part of the Ancient East, is a link between earth and heaven.

Mausoleum of Hajj Muhammad Arif al-Rivgariy is the burial place of murshid Hajj Arif al-Rivgariy. He was born in the village of Revgar in the middle of XII century. He was a disciple of the great murshid Abdulkhalik Gijduvani. After the death of the great teacher, he received permission to be a spiritual mentor for others. Till the end of his life he was active in religious activities. He liked to recite zikr aloud. There is a legend that Haji Arif lived 150 years. He was buried in the village of Shafirkan in Bukhara region.

Mausoleum of Hajjah Mahmud Anjir-Fagnavi is the burial place of the greatest Sufi, spiritual teacher. He was born near the city of Vabkent. At the beginning of his path he was a craftsman and carpenter. Having passed the path of discipleship, he became a murshid. Mahmud Injir Fagnavi was the first to pronounce zikr loudly, believing that “those who sleep should wake up”. He was buried in his native village Anjirbog.

The memorial complex of Khoja Ali Ramitaniy is the burial place of the most famous spiritual master of the Hajagan Sufi school. The people nicknamed the Sufi “Azizkhon” – honorable sheikh. He was born at the end of the XII century in the town of Ramitan. Professionally engaged in weaving throughout his life. He was a pupil of Mahmud Fagnawi. Ali Ramitaniy succeeded in the impossible – he converted Mongols to the Islamic faith. He helped to restore the scattered lands after the Mongol invasion and practiced medicine. Legend has it that the Sufi was able to read people’s thoughts and answer a question before it was voiced aloud. During his long and righteous life he had many disciples, among whom were his sons. He bequeathed to his youngest son Haje Ibrahim to continue his teachings.

The memorial complex of Hajja Muhammad Bobo Sammasi is the burial place of the famous Sufi, follower of Hajji Ali Ramitani. Hajja Sammasi made an invaluable contribution to the development of Sufism, foretold the birth of a great personality, the creator of Bahautdin Muhammad Naqshbandi. Legend has it that one day while passing by Bahautdin’s native village of Kasri Hinduwane, the mystic had a vision. He said that in this place the greatest son of Sufism and enlightenment would be born, and the place would be called “The Village of the Enlightened”.

The teacher passed away at the age of 95 in 1354. The holy burial place is located in the village of Simas in Romitan district. A mausoleum, a mosque, a well and a beautiful garden have been erected here – all that this non-trivial man personified with his teachings.

Hajj Memorial Complex Sayyid Amir Kulal Bukhari is the burial place of Sayyid Amir Kulal. Already during his lifetime he had the nickname Kalon, which means “The Great”. He was professionally engaged in pottery. His fame caught up with him long before he became the Great Teacher. He was a famously talented potter.

Sayyid Amir Kulal was a spiritual authority and had more than a hundred followers, among whom was Bahautdin Muhammad Naqshbandi. He introduced Naqshbandi to the basics of Sufism, about the correct reading of zikr, and the traditions of the mystical path of Hajagan. There is an opinion that the teacher was introduced to the Great Disciple by Sheikh Hajj Sammasi, who already then realized that he was entrusting the most valuable and dear spiritual son. Sayyid Amir Kulal was buried in 1370 in his native village of Suhar.

Bahauddin Naqshbandi Complex (XVI c.) is a unique memorial complex located 12 km. from Bukhara. The complex was built in honor of the cult “Teacher of Sufism” Bahauddin Naqshbandi.

At the complex “Bahauddin Naqshbandi” there is a museum, which presents interesting exhibits and information related to the life and activities of this amazing man.

Breakfast at the hotel.

10:00 Start of the tour around Samarkand.

Samarkand is larger than Bukhara, so we can’t explore everything on foot. We do part of the tour on foot and part by car. Samarkand is the city of Amir Timur, his capital, the city that inspired fear and admiration of other conquerors at the same time. In Samarkand all monuments belong to XIV-XVII centuries. Not in vain the city is called majestic, as the minimum height of each building is 20 meters. We start the excursion from the Gur Emir Mausoleum, where not only Tamerlan himself, but also his closest relatives are buried. Next to the mausoleum is Registan Square, with three madrassahs of XV-XVII centuries looking at each other. Registan Square is not only the most visited place in Uzbekistan, but also a cultural venue for cultural events. And what is worth the evening panorama of the square!

Tashkent Street is the link between the Registan and the Bibi Khanum Mosque, where you can walk through the souvenir shops. The street will lead us to the Bibi Khanum Mosque as well as the main bazaar Siab. The main market of Samarkand is saturated with the odors of spices, fruits and vegetables, which you can taste while passing through the stalls of traders. The most authentic place of Samarkand! After visiting the bazaar, we walk down the street and before us we see the view of endless hills, which are the cradle of Samarkand’s history. On these hills there is a complex of mausoleums of Shahi Zinda, where the grave of a cousin of the Prophet Muhammad is located, as well as a street of mausoleums of the female line of the Timur dynasty. In addition to monuments of religious importance, in Samarkand we will lastly visit the observatory of Ulugbek, the grandson of Amir Timur, with the only surviving instrument for studying the stars.
